Maestro George Del Gobbo celebrates 20 years with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra this year in Columbus, Georgia. The regular trombone section in that orchestra is Mark McConnell and Ed Nicholson, tenor trombones, and Richard Brady, bass trombone. They are one of the tightest and most finely tuned sections you will ever hear. Once in a while, I have the honor of “subbing” for one of those guys. This weekend was such an occassion……hope you enjoy meeting George Del Gobbo and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. They can be visited on the web, too:

Leslie Bassett is one of the most respected and honored composers of our day. On his wall hangs a Pulitzer Prize and the Prix de Rome. Incredible.
He is especially adored by the trombone community. He has provided us with rich, interesting, creative, and substantial literature for both soloist and trombone ensemble.
He was kind enough to let me visit with him…..and I will never forget it. I smiled all the way home, through rush hour traffic.
Please visit him on the Web (and do buy his music. You will find it money well spent.)

” ‘Rosa Parks Boulevard’ pays tribute to the woman who helped set in motion the modern civil rights movement by her refusal to move to the back of the bus in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama….. For me, Rosa Parks stands for the willingness to challenge boundaries and cross over them.”
-Michael Daugherty, composer

All the strength required to perform this most powerful music pales in comparison to that displayed by the mightily courageous seamstress:
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005)
May she rest in hard-won peace.
