What can we say? One of our heroes and one of the world’s greatest trombonists visited this week. Jim Pugh is a gentleman, scholar, artist, virtuoso…..and now friend. Thanks, Jim, for what many around here are calling the best ‘bone hang EVER! Good luck on your tour with Steely Dan and we’ll be talking with you again real soon. Ladies and Gentlemen, we most proudly present:

Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987) wrote a Serenade (No.6, Op.40) for a most uncommon group of musical collaborators: trombone, viola, and cello
In this Episode, we hear Colin Williams on trombone, Brad Ritchie on cello, and Catherine Lynn on viola. This is some superb chamber music, folks! Hope you enjoy it. We all know how fun it is to play LOUD, but it’s equally impressive to hear a trombone played with a real sense of CONTEXT, as Colin does here. Bravo, sir! The interplay between these 3 superb musicians is inspiring, enlightening, and worthy of watching again and again.
More info about Persichetti can be found at the website that we’ve developed to enhance these Podcasts. Go here: www.trombonelessons.com

Here it is, folks…..Jennifer Mitchell’s “Atlanta Impressions”, written for the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) Brass Band. We hope you enjoy it!
In this video, her piece is performed by the Georgia Brass Band. The composer writes of this work:
As a native Atlantan, I have often found inspiration from the beauty and bustle of this urban yet quaint city. “Atlanta Impressions” celebrates the things in Atlanta that make it special for me, from a sunny afternoon in Piedmont Park to our thriving arts community, from the Georgia Aquarium to the chaos of I-285 on a Friday afternoon. I close the piece with a section titled, “I Have a Dream,” celebrating the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all the things Atlanta has to look forward to in its prosperous future.
Jennifer Mitchell b. 1974
It was a wonderful day…….the final concert of the inaugural season of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) Brass Band at the beautiful Dozier Centre for the Performing Arts. Joining us to celebrate was Chris Martin, Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and somewhat of a local hero! Chris performs on Philip Sparke’s “Song and Dance” and a newly commissioned piece by Eric Alexander. His piece is a trumpet/trombone duet with Brass Band entitled “Toy Soldiers”. It was a big thrill for me to join Chris in playing this very cool piece. Hope you enjoy this episode! Info about the GYSO program is on the Web: http://www.georgiayouthsymphony.org/
